Click the image below to download the PDF document containing the serial number date-range information on many Winchester firearms. You will need the Adobe Reader program to open this file. Adobe Reader is available free from Adobe.

There is probably some kernel of truth to all of them. But the fact remains; there is no original, single, totally accurate database of serial numbers from 1866 forward that we are aware of. But perhaps these pages can help you somewhat in your research.

Seems this question gets asked a lot, and although I don't see any answers myself on any PDF or other data sheets I have to ask. I have a 20GA 101 Pigeon XTR 25.5 length barrels serial number by memory is PK273XX. I recently saw an answer for someone with a K00082x as a 1966 since mine has the PK and 5 digits should I believe it's older then the LOST serial numbers (after 1971) or is someone sitting on a mystical source of information? If you know when mine was made I'd like to know. Thanks

Bill I may be able to give you some of the answers to your questions. The PK in your serial number means the gun is a Pigeon grade. Later Pigeon guns did not have the PK in the serial no. Winchester/Olin started importing the 101s in about 1981 and when the serial no. ends with an "E" it means the gun was inported in to the USA threw East Alton Il. Right after the PK there is a 2. That means the gun is a 20 gauge, which you already know your gun is a 20 gauge. 2ff7e9595c
